It’s the end for MX Nationals as we know it https://www.motoheadmag.com/its-the-end-for-mx-nationals-as-we-know-it/ Wed, 16 Aug 2023 17:45:56 +0000 https://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=38487 The MX Nationals championship will end at round five at Hawkstone Park on September 2-3 which will be the final ever round of the series under its current format, say organisers. “Now is the time for change, and we look forward to doing something new in the future. This is the end of MX Nationals Championship as you know it,” said Neil Irwin, MX Nationals Director.

“While we understand the disappointment this news may bring, we firmly believe that it is the right decision for MX Nationals, Pro teams and riders in mind,” he said. “With the dwindling registered riders’ entries and the increased number of wildcards each round, it is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain the series, and it questions what the future of the championship and British Motocross looks like. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, teams, sponsors, and fans who have shown unwavering support and enthusiasm for the Michelin MX Nationals series over ten years. Your dedication and encouragement have been instrumental in driving the championship’s success over the years.”

Originally planned as a six-round championship this year, unforeseen challenges arising from the persistent British weather, the closure of secure tracks mid-season, and a heavily packed MX calendar during September and October have necessitated calling the championship to an end at round five. The final round of the 2023 championship will be round five at Hawkstone Park on September 2-3 .

Paul Irwin – Race Director, added, “We invite you all to join us at Hawkstone as we celebrate the victories and the end of the season in style. The final round promises to be a thrilling event where the best of the best will showcase their skills and compete for the coveted championship titles. Let us come together to honour the riders’ accomplishments and witness the crowning of the 2023 MX Nationals champions.”

Gilbert does the double in Oxford MX Nationals https://www.motoheadmag.com/gilbert-does-the-double-in-oxford-mx-nationals/ Mon, 10 Jul 2023 09:49:13 +0000 https://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=38147 Crendon Fastrack Honda riders Josh Gilbert and Conrad Mewse continued their amazing run of wins and podiums at the third round of the MX Nationals at the spectacular and fast Oxford Moto Parc circuit.

After Mewse won the last three British championship events from his team-mate, this time Gilbert carried on his MX Nationals winning run from the last round at Monster Mountain in Wales.

Gilbert leads Mewse

At the man-made circuit near Abingdon, it was Gilbert who blasted to victory in both races on the fast and technical circuit. His maximum 50-point haul means he’s now just two behind Mewse in the championship, who had second and third place finishes at Oxford despite feeling under the weather. And the pair’s incredible record of being together on the podium at every single national-level championship round this season continues.

The opening moto saw former HRC factory rider Evgeny Bobryshev lead on the first lap with Gilbert and Mewse quickly on his tail. By the end of lap two it was Gilbert in the lead with Mewse right behind in second, and once again the pair set an unmatchable pace at the front as they gapped the field. Setting lap times up to two seconds a lap quicker than the chasing Bobryshev and Harri Kullas, the Crendon Fastrack Honda duo staged a fantastic fight for the lead that had the crowd on their toes. But in the final three laps Gilbert just seemed to find the extra he needed to edge away to victory. He also set the fastest lap of the race.

Mewse flying high

Second time out Gilbert used the power of the Honda CRF450R to take the holeshot from Bobryshev, Ivo Monticelli and Mewse. Gilbert immediately began to edge away from the Russian rider, while it took Mewse a couple of laps to get by Monticelli and settle into his rhythm. By mid race, Gilbert continued to edge away from Bobryshev on every lap then Mewse began to make a charge. But instead of his normal, relentless move to the front he found it impossible to get on terms with the leading duo. As Gilbert eventually crossed the line 16 seconds in front of Bobryshev, Mewse was feeling sapped of energy so brought the Honda home for a safe third place.

So with Gilbert taking the overall for his double win, Mewse and Bobryshev tied on 42 points each for second but the nod went to Bobryshev due to his better second race result. But Mewse still holds onto the red plate.

Gilbert took a start-to-finish win in moto two

Gilbert said: “It’s so nice to get a one-one finish – my first one of this year. And it feels good. Me and Conrad have been having some good battles lately and if it’s not him winning it’s me. He’s had the upper hand in the last few races. But today I had a perfect day.

“Last week at the British championship the team changed the bike and it has made a big difference. It makes me more relaxed and I can ride like I know I can. And that proved it today.

“The track was gnarly, there was no let up and it kept you on your toes. My starts were dialled, and for that you need a good bike and the Honda is unbelievable. And the suspension is working right. It’s everything that makes it possible to win.”

Mewse said: “It was a tough day today as I felt a bit under the weather. I haven’t felt good since Thursday, so I don’t know if I’m coming down with something. Today I wasn’t my usual self on the track. So if that’s an off day for me then I’ll take that. To be on the podium and leave still leading this championship and the main British championship is good so I have to be happy with that. And we’ll bounce back next time.”

Team co-ordinator Ryan Thorpe said: “The whole team performed incredibly well again this weekend, with Josh having a well-deserved double win and Conrad making the best of not feeling very well to keep the red plate and end up on the podium again.

“It’s testament to the professionalism of the riders and mechanics who keep working relentlessly to come up with the goods again. Race wins, podiums and first and second in the championship means it was another successful event for the Crendon Fastrack Honda team.”

Mewse dominant in MX Nationals https://www.motoheadmag.com/mewse-dominant-in-mx-nationals/ Sat, 01 Apr 2023 11:18:24 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=37480 The opening round of the 2023 Michelin MX Nationals, powered by Milwaukee, marked the 10th year of the prestigious series and was at the new Oakhanger venue near Bordon in Hampshire. The circuit culminated in months of discussion and negotiations with the landowners. It incorporated a mountain of paperwork, and that’s all before the track was designed and built. In addition, the original date had to be rescheduled after being dealt a delightful hand of typical British weather from mother nature.

Mewse won both races

When the gate finally dropped on round one, what a track it was! Reminiscent of the legendary circuits in Holland, Oakhanger was a welcomed addition to the series and British Motocross. Saturday featured great days of racing and two blocks for all classes. We even saw the sun poke through on occassion. But mother nature dealt her second blow on the venue. Continual overnight rain created very different riding conditions for the Sunday race schedule. Resulting in a delayed start and only one block of racing for all classes except the pro class.

Kullas was fast but wasn’t on Mewse’s pace

Conrad Mewse, on his Crendon Fastrack Honda, was fastest in qualifying and dominated both Leatt Pro MX1 races with what looked like considerable ease for a maximum score. While in the Apico Pro MX2s, Verde Sports KTM’s Bailey Johnston scored his first national race win in race one. He continued his winning streak in race two to give him his first national overall.

Gilbert was third in both races

Last year’s champion, Harri Kullas, got the holeshot at the start of the first combined Pro race from Conrad Mewse, Gavin Stevenson, Jamie Carpenter, Josh Gilbert and Martin Barr.

Johnston was dominant in MX2

As the two leaders came around to complete the second lap, Mewse had passed Kullas out of view over the back of the course to take the lead. Mewse stretched out more and more of a lead as Kullas slowed as smoke poured out of the back of his Yamaha, a missing oil filler plug the culprit.

Jake Millward was rapid on the 250 smoker

The smaller MX2 bikes struggled in the wet sand, and this became apparent when Johnston, the first of the MX2s, gated thirteenth. He held his own against the MX1s and finished in tenth place on the track, but he was the first MX2 rider home. Callum Mitchell started the race in nine nineteenth place and took full advantage of others crashing out to make his way forward to twelfth but second MX2. Jamie Wainwright was third MX2 home, with Jake Millward fourth.

Carpenter comes in to land

The track became even more challenging throughout the day. Mewse got the holeshot from Kullas, Gilbert, Barr, John, Adamson, Carpenter, and Charlie Putnam in the second pro race. Apart from Adamson passing Barr at the halfway point, the running order of the top five stayed the same as they became spaced out till the checked flag. As Putnam slipped down to twelfth place, Grimshaw put on a charge and snatched sixth place from Carpenter.

Once again, Johnston got a strong start in the MX2 side of the race and was only beaten into the first turn by Sam Nunn, but that all changed on the opening lap, and Johnson was first back round. Charlie Cole took the MX2 lead from Johnston on lap three but promptly fell back to twentieth place. Johnston finished his race in ninth on the track but was the first MX2 rider home.

Wainwright finds some different dirt

Mitchell was in eighth, with a lap to go but was passed by Stevenson and Johnston but was still the second MX2 rider. Millward didn’t get the start he wanted but went from twenty-first to eleventh place and third MX2.

Mewse took the Leatt Pro MX1 overall win from Kullas and Gilbert, while in the Apico Pro MX2s, Johnston had his first national overall win from Mitchell and Millward.

It was very close at the top of the RFX Expert MX1s, with a single point separating the winner Declan Whittle from James Dodd. Whittle had two wins and a fourth after crashing on the fourth lap of the second race, while Dodd didn’t finish out of the top three in his class and even won race two. Jayden Ashwell was third overall.

Sam Nunn styling

Ben Mustoe won all three of the RFX Expert MX2 side of the combined expert races and was the overall class winner, while Uldis Friebergs with two-second places and a fourth was second. Jimmy Margetson was third.

In the Motoverde Amateur MX1 class, Lewis Taylor won all three races as Luke Mellows chased him over the finish line every time. John Kirk took the last step on the podium, with Brad Thornhill just missing out.

In the relativity dry of Saturday, Luca Pegg notched up two class wins in the Motoverde Amateur MX2 side of the combined amateur MX1 and MX2 race. But, come Sunday’s wetter conditions, he made a bad start and, with another crash, could only get to eighteenth place by the end of the race. Luckily that was just enough to give him the class overall win by just one point from Alex Buchanan. Raife Broadley finished just a single point behind him, as three points separated the top three.

Mewse won from Harri Kullas and Josh Gilbert ion the pro MX1

You don’t have to win a race to win an overall, as Tallon Aspden proved in the Worx Sports Insurance Clubman MX1s with his three-second place. Race two winner Ryan King was second overall, with race one winner Billy Saunders third.

Matt Tolley (426 Motorsports KTM) won the Spiral Clubman MX2s from Matthew Pocock and Aaron Framingham third.

The Youth MXY250 podium

Three big holeshots and three big race wins for Billy Askew in the combined Fly Racing Youth MXY2 and MXY125 class. Bayliss, Utting and Jak Taylor were separated by just three points for second and third overall.

It was three from three for Reece Jones in the 125cc side of the race, with Jake Walker second and Westley McGavin third.

There was no stopping Josh Vail in the Syntol Big Wheel 85s as he took all three race wins. Jamie Keith finished the weekend with two third places and second, placing him second overall, with Charlie Richmond third. Fancied winner Haydon Statt had a disaster of a first race where he finished out of the points, but a second and third meant he ended the day fourth overall.

Joel Winstanley-Dawson with two wins, and a second won the Syntol Small Wheel 85s from Marty Spires and Lucas Lee. Words by Dick Law

Countdown to the MX Nationals https://www.motoheadmag.com/countdown-to-the-mx-nationals/ Thu, 23 Mar 2023 19:43:37 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=37440 After the initial disappointment of having to postpone the opening round of the Michelin MX Nationals powered by Milwuakee, the 2023 championship finally kicks into life this weekend at the fantastic new Oakhanger race circuit, near Bordon, Hampshire.

Although the new circuit, designed and built by Alfie Smith with assistance from Justin Barclay, didn’t make it’s debut with the MX Nationals as planned it did last weekend with the Revo ACU British championship and it certainly didn’t disappoint in putting the riders to the test. Since then the MX Nationals team have made some refined tweaks and improvements to the circuit having seen it in action and done more work in extending and levelling the paddock and parking areas and are all set for a good two days of action over the weekend to get the championship kicked off, albeit two weeks later than scheduled.

It’s the 10th anniversary of the MX Nationals and the team are proud to kick off that tenth year with another new circuit they’ve resourced and built with the help of the British Army following on from the success of the new Oxford Moto Parc for the final round of last year’s championship. Although the circuit is not permanent and will be flattened directly after the event, all being well with this year’s event the MX Nationals team can continue to work with the army and potentially develop and improve the venue for a return in 2024 and beyond.

But before then, there’s the rather big matter of getting the 2023 championship underway and yet again it’s a stacked out entry of riders across all classes ranging from the Syntol Lubricants Supermini Class all the way to the Leatt / Apico Elite Fastest 40 racers. Once again that looks set to be a brilliant championship battle as the best riders in the country battle it in the combined MX1 / MX2 race. Although being scored separately by class within the race expect to see some of the top MX2 riders mixing it at the sharp end of the races with the faster MX1 machines.

Defending MX1 and Fastest 40 champion Harri Kullas (Cab Screens Crescent Yamaha) will be wanting to get his championship defence off to a solid start as he goes for his fourth title in five years and the ‘threepeat’ after winning in 2021 and 2022 and if his performance at Oakhanger last weekend is anything to go by he’ll be hard to beat. One man that will feel confident of doing just that though will be Crendon Fastrack Honda Racing Hitachi Tru7’s Conrad Mewse who also looked really strong on his motocross debut for the team last week. As did his teammate Josh Gilbert who will want to put it on the box and get off to a solid start. Unfortunately Tommy Searle (GTCI / Revo Kawasaki) will be missing the opening round of the championship due to his nasty spill in the second moto last weekend.

In the MX2 class there will definitely be a new champion as 2022 winner Jamie Carpenter has moved up to the MX1 class to partner the reigning champion Kullas on the Cab Screen Crescent Yamaha team. It’s going to be good to watch the next generation of pro talent battle it out. Starting as one of the favourites  will be Bobby Bruce (ASA United Gas Gas), even though he missed a good chunk of 2022 with a knee injury. He’ll have stiff competition from the likes of Jake Millward (Shiloh Verde Husqvarna), Carlton Husband (Phoenix Tools Even Strokes Kawasaki), Callum Mitchell (Lexa) and potentially last year’s MXY1 champion Charlie Heyman (Crendon Fastrack Honda Racing Hitachi Tru7) to name but a few.

Add the RFX Expert, Motoverde Amateur, Worx Financial / Spiral Graphics Clubman, Fly Futures MXY1/2 and Syntol Supermini 85cc classes into the mix and yet again the Michelin MX Nationals powered by Milwaukee is all good to go for another cracking weekend of hard fought racing to start the championship. It’s going to be rough, it’s going to be tough, it’s going to be incident packed and exciting.

Gates open at 8.30am on both days for spectators. Pre event tickets can be purchased using the link below at £20. Tickets on the gate are available at £25. The circuit will be signposted from the A325 Bordon bypass and all spectators and riders are encouraged to enter the circuit this way to avoid large volumes of traffic travelling through Oakhanger village and the surrounding area. Dogs are allowed on site but must be kept on a lead but please bring toilet bags and clean up after them as Oakhanger is an active military training ground. Please respect our armed forces by doing that and putting litter in the bins provided or taking it home with you…. and the MX Nationals team may be able to secure more new venues with the Military of Defence. Together we can!

Opening MX National axed due to weather https://www.motoheadmag.com/opening-mx-national-axed-due-to-weather/ Thu, 09 Mar 2023 15:04:23 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=37340 It is with regret that the organising team of the Michelin MX Nationals have made the tough
decision to postpone round 1 of the 2023 championship scheduled for Oakhanger, Hampshire,
this weekend (11/12th March).

Due to initial snowfall, then persistent heavy showers of sleet and rain, the team are conscious
of the safety of everyone attending with movements in the paddock and potential damage to
vehicles. This will also have a profound effect on the local roads surrounding the venue, with
traffic entering and exiting the site.

The MX Nationals team are all too fully aware of the time, money and effort that goes into
racing, the value of bikes, equipment and Motorhomes, and the long season ahead in this
current cost of living crisis. With that very much in mind and the access and safety of all
personnel and the medical team, the decision to postpone has been called.

The team are now working on trying to reschedule Round 1 of the Michelin MX Nationals
championship to run at Oakhanger on the weekend of March 25/26 th . Contingency plans are
also being put in place to run at another venue on that weekend should the weather once
again prevent the opening round of the championship from being run at Oakhanger.

The MX Nationals team wish to apologise for any inconvenience and is bitterly disappointed
not to be getting the championship underway this weekend, especially after the incredible
amount of hard work and time invested in finding an exciting new venue for British Motocross.
Rider’s and spectator’s entries will be carried over. Please bear with the team over the next 48
hours while they start packing down the site and have limited opportunities to answer
enquiries.
More information to follow.

British championship and MX Nationals work together https://www.motoheadmag.com/british-championship-and-mx-nationals-work-together/ Fri, 16 Sep 2022 19:50:14 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=35864 British championship organisers RHL Activities and MX Nationals are working together for 2023 strengthening the two biggest Championships in the UK under the Auto Cycle Union. The aim is to rebuild elite domestic motocross and produce two quality Championships for riders to compete in, whilst promoting the sport we love to new audiences, developing youth riders and sourcing new circuits are some of the joint goals.

Paul Irwin from MX Nationals said “I’m tired of hearing people complain about the state of British Motocross. It needs to change for the better and I am confident that by working together we can make improvements that sets us on the right path. The two Championships share a passion for the sport that when in vision will create a strong platform to elevate British Motocross.”

Gareth Hockey from RHL Activities said “This is a positive opportunity for our sport in the UK. Both parties have strengths and weaknesses which by working together we can improve, moving both series and the sport forward to a stronger structure. It’s been a pleasure collaborating with the MXN team towards the end of this season and I am excited for the future.”

MX Nationals heads to brand new track https://www.motoheadmag.com/mx-nationals-heads-to-brand-new-track/ Wed, 31 Aug 2022 09:57:19 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=35741 The final round of the Michelin MX Nationals powered by Milwaukee brings the championship to its conclusion this weekend at the all new Oxford Moto Parc venue. With many of the ever increasingly popular British championship classes yet to be decided and a brand new circuit designed and built by Alfie Smith, with help from fellow top U.K track builders Justin Barclay and Johnny Douglas Hamilton it’s fair to say there’s a lot of excitement about the final round from riders and fans alike.

With the Leatt MX1 Elite championship gold plate already in the hands of Cab Screens Crescent Yamaha’s Harri Kullas, most eyes will turn to the battle for the Apico MX2 Elite title chase where there will definitely be a new champion. Jamie Carpenter (GRT Impact KTM) went into the penultimate round at Hawkstone Park 17 points behind Tom Grimshaw (Chambers Racing Team) but came away 10 points in front and now has the target on his back, so no doubt Tom will be throwing everything he has at Jamie to get back in front by the time of the final flag drop of the championship. Calum Mitchell isn’t out of the title hunt either, only 27 points off the lead, although realistically it’s a big ask and he’ll be hoping for some serious bad luck to fall on Carpenter and Grimshaw. Apico Factory Racing Husqvarna’s Jamie Law is a further 10 points back and will be keeping the pressure on Calum, while Carlton Husband (Phoenix Tools / Even Strokes Kawasaki), who took his maiden MX Nationals race win last time out will want to keep that trend going. Getting in the mix to spice it up further will be Dylan Walsh (Revo Seven Kawasaki) and he’ll sure as hell put on a show on the new circuit with some pretty tasty jumps for him to scrub and whip. Bobby Bruce (ASA United Gas Gas) will also be making his first appearance of the championship in 2023 following his knee surgery.

Just because Harri Kullas has already won the title don’t expect him to take his right hand off the gas. He’ll want to sign the series off in style and certainly try and get a physiological edge over Tommy Searle (Crendon Fastrack Hitachi Honda) as they continue to fight it out elsewhere. Searle missed Hawkstone due to illness but will up for the fight at the final round. So too will Josh Gilbert (SC Sportshomes / Stebbings Car Superstore Husqvarna) who has been showing some serious form racing the last three AMA US Nationals, so much so that some fans have been asking the question why he isn’t joining Tommy on Team GB for the MX of Nations at Red Bud. Another rider who was in the running to be on Team GB, Conrad Mewse (Stebbings Car Superstore KTM), will want to prove a point and show that he will be a real championship threat in MX1 for 2023. Martin Barr (Apico Factory Racing Husqvarna) sits third in the championship, even though he’s been fighting a mystery illness for a large chunk of the year. Brad Todd (Gabriel KTM) has put together a strong championship run and will want to try and pip Martin at the post as he’s only four points behind. Jon Adamson (ASA United Gas Gas) has been getting faster and faster as the year draws to a close and will be swashbuckling as usual in his attempts to win. The final round should also the return of Evgeny Bobryshev (SC Sportshomes / Stebbings Car Superstore Husqvarna) after being sidelined due to world political reasons.

If all that isn’t enough there’s the Syntol Lubricants 85cc Open, Seven Youth 125/250, Moto Connection Clubman MX2, Worx Sports Insurance MX1, Motoverde Amateur MX2/MX1 and RFX Expert MX2/MX1 classes going at it over the two days providing awesome race action as always. The Elite pro riders will be in action on Sunday. You can catch all of the final day of racing of the 2022 Michelin MX Nationals powered by Milwaukee exclusively live and free to view on MXN-TV’s YouTube and Facebook channels from 9.30am on Sunday.

Spectator tickets are £20 and cover both days, while camping per vehicle costs £10. For more information go to MX Nationals Facebook and Instagram pages. Oxford Moto Parc is situated just west of Abingdon, Oxford and will be signposted off the A34 / A415 Abingdon junction.

With the Salop Club putting in the work and making a few amendments to freshen up the track and the weather looking good, there will be a packed out two days of racing across the following classes; Syntol Lubricants 85cc Open, Seven Youth 125/250, Moto Connection Clubman MX2, Worx Sports Insurance MX1, Motoverde Amateur MX2/MX1, RFX Expert MX2/MX1, Apico Elite MX2, Leatt MX1 and the Lyfelinez Fastest 40.

The penultimate rounds of the British championship may well see some champions crowned, although in most classes it looks like it’s going the distance. Particularly in the Apico MX2 Elite class where Tom Grimshaw (Chambers Husqvarna) who is leading a pro championship for the first time, is being hunted down by Jamie Carpenter (GRT Impact KTM) with the gap at 17 points between them. Calum Mitchell (Fabrican KTM) is a further 20 points back from Carpenter and still in a with a shout of the championship, albeit a tall ask. Apico Factory Racing Husqvarna’s Jamie Law sits in fourth on his 2 stroke 250. Revo Seven Kawasaki’s Dylan Walsh will be expecting to go 1-1 at the weekend but he’s not in contention for winning the championship after missing some previous rounds.

Harri Kullas (Cab Screens Crescent Yamaha) could wrap up the Leatt MX1 title at Hawkstone as he has a 45 point lead over Josh Gilbert (SC Sportshomes powered by Stebbings Husqvarna), but both Josh and Tommy Searle (Crendon Fastrack Hitachi Honda) will be doing all they can to take the championship to the last round. Searle in particular is on form right now. Shaun Simpson (SS24 KTM), although not in contention for the championship will be relishing going for the win in his favoured conditions. Add to the mix the likes of John Adamson (ASA United Gas Gas) Martin Barr, Stuart Edmonds (Apico Factory Racing Husqvarna), Brad Todd, Liam Knight (Gabriel KTM), Petar Petrov, Jason Meara (Phoenix Tools Even Strokes Kawasaki) and Glenn McCormick (Chambers Husqvarna) to name a few the racing will fast and intense.

The Elite pro riders will be in action on Sunday, while all the other classes race over both Saturday and Sunday. Spectator tickets are £20 and cover both days, while camping per vehicle costs £10. For more information go to www.mxnationals.co.uk

MX Nationals heads to Lyng https://www.motoheadmag.com/mx-nationals-heads-to-lyng/ Thu, 26 May 2022 19:38:46 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=34983
After two successful rounds, the Michelin MX Nationals powered by Milwaukee heads to Lyng, Norfolk this weekend and nearer the half way stage of the championship. The Cadders Hill circuit is rich in history and is one of the toughest in the U.K and, no doubt, will once again produce some great racing. With 26 races and 12 different classes over two days of racing there’s plenty of on track action at the MX Nationals and the sand based circuit will definitely add to the challenge.

In the Leatt MX1 Elite championship, defending champion Harri Kullas (Cab Screens Crescent Yamaha) will be looking to take the red plate off current series lead Josh Gilbert (SC Sportshomes / Stebbings Car Superstore Husqvarna) as he’s only four points behind and Gilbert will be out of action as he’ll be attending the first round of the AMA Pro Motocross series in California. Team-mates Stuart Edmonds and Martin Barr (Apico Husqvarna) are currently tied on points in third and fourth and will be looking to advance with Gilbert out and be top dog in the Apico camp. Tommy Searle (Crendon Fastrack Hitachi Honda) who didn’t make the best of starts in the championship is now starting to claw his back up the leader board and will look to get his first MX Nationals overall win of 2022 as he’s currently in a rich vein of form.

Tom Grimshaw (Chambers Husqvarna) took his first ever pro overall victory last time out at Landrake in the Apico MX2 Elite MX2 and with it the championship lead, so he’ll be keen to do all he can to keep hold of that red plate coming out of Lyng. Last year’s runner up Carlton Husband (Phoenix Tools / Even Strokes Kawasaki) is right there though, only six points back and will be applying as much pressure on Grimshaw as possible if his injured foot from last weekend is healed.

Round one winner Jamie Carpenter (GRT Impact KTM) had a rough ride at Landrake and had to miss the second moto to take a trip to the hospital for a nasty laceration to his upper arm after a first corner crash, so he’ll be determined to get back to winning ways and move up from third on the championship. Calum Mitchell (Fabrican Racing Team), who currently sits in fourth, is no stranger to Lyng and is only seven points behind Carpenter. Two points further back is the hard charging Lewis Hall (LHR Husqvarna) on his 250 2 stroke and he’ll be a threat in the tough, sandy conditions which are more to his liking.

Of course it’s not just about the Elite riders at the MX Nationals, the youth, clubman, amateur and expert classes are the backbone of the championship and provide equally as exciting racing and battle just as hard, as we’ve seen down the years. Once again, you’ll be able to watch all the action on the free to view live stream on MXN TV on Youtube and Facebook. There’ll be continual, uninterrupted coverage covering every race on Sunday from 9.30am

Advanced spectator and camping tickets are available at www.mxnationals.co.uk priced at £20 for spectating (single cost for both days) and camping at £10 per vehicle and also available on entry at the gate.
