The first race was a clear win for Brit Joel Rizzi, as Liam Everts came through the pack to second, just a couple of seconds adrift. Second time out and it was the Everts show as he won by 40 seconds from Rizzi to take the overall. We catch up with Liam and his dad Stefan, still bravely fighting back from malaria.

The 90s: The Golden Era of Motocross Gear https://www.motoheadmag.com/the-90s-the-golden-era-of-motocross-gear/ Thu, 29 Aug 2019 20:03:19 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=21987

Red Bull Straight Rhythm continues its mission to be a figurative time machine, transporting us back to the glorious 1990s. And ‘90s motocross wouldn’t be nearly as glorious without the wild gear that set the era apart with it’s bold styling, loud, neon graphics and cutthroat competition.

Revisit this hallowed time through the collective recollections of the founders/designers of three of the top MX gear brands, Fox Racing, No Fear and AXO, as they reminisce about the vibe, the riders and the gear that fueled the ‘90s.

Longing to return to the era of two-strokes and neon pink gearsets?

Brad Anderson’s lead in the EMX 2T championship was cut to two points as he took fifth in the opening moto at the Latvian GP. Ando led in the early stages but dropped back to fifth spot as Swede Ken Bengtson coolly passed Ando and Mike Kras to take the win.

Kras held on for second, and is now just a couple of points behind Anderson.

Briton Todd Kellett, winner of last week’s round in Russia, took third place after he beat Andero Lusbo. Yamaha rider Kellett is now third in the series, 17 points adrift of Ando.

If you have a KTM or Husqvarna 250 two-stroke, then altering the power delivery is as simple as changing the powervalve spring and setting it up right. But which spring do you choose and what difference does the adjuster make?

MotoHead’s chief tester Dave Willet runs through the different options and why one particular spring is not advised!

125 two-stroke series at all USA Nationals https://www.motoheadmag.com/125-two-stroke-series-at-all-usa-nationals/ https://www.motoheadmag.com/125-two-stroke-series-at-all-usa-nationals/#respond Tue, 02 Apr 2019 18:36:51 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=19346

Following a welcomed return to the Nationals last season, MX Sports Pro Racing has announced that the popular 125 All Star Series will expand for the 2019 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. Starting this May at the legendary Hangtown Motocross Classic, the unmistakable sound of the beloved 2-stroke motorcycle will be heard at all 12 rounds of the season. Each round of the 125 All Star Series will run as a precursor to the professional action on every Saturday throughout the summer, featuring a single four-lap moto from which the top three finishers will be recognized on the podium and given awards.

“As we continue to expand the scope of amateur motocross racing as a whole, the 125 All Star Series provides an ideal platform to not only recognize this passionate and resurgent segment of the marketplace, but also pay homage to the roots of this incredible sport,” explained Roy Janson, Managing Director for MX Sports Pro Racing. “This complement to the National program allows us to establish a formalized structure for 2-stroke competition beyond our youth divisions, which in turn provides an appropriate transitional platform in which the performance capabilities of the bike better align with the size and skill level of developing riders.”

Program eligibility requires that all participants be a minimum of 15 years of age, hold a current AMA membership and have an AMA classification of “B” or higher. Additionally, current and former AMA Pro Racing licensed riders are also welcome to compete, provided they are not entered in the professional program at that designated event.

From an equipment standpoint, the 125 All Star Series is limited to 125cc 2-strokes only. This eligibility is based on current production models (2014-current) available through a national dealer network or, in the case of manufacturers that have ceased 2-stroke production, non-current models from the final three model years.

Specific details regarding rules and eligibility can be found by visiting the 125 All Star Series website. Additionally, interested participants can apply for entry by completing and submitting the 125 All Star Series Entry Form.

Youth 85 class at Blaxhall Maxxis https://www.motoheadmag.com/youth-85-class-at-blaxhall-maxxis/ https://www.motoheadmag.com/youth-85-class-at-blaxhall-maxxis/#respond Mon, 25 Mar 2019 13:09:55 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=19158 A 85cc class will be included at the Maxxis British Championship round at Blaxhall in Suffolk on Sunday 2 June.

Following the British two-stroke class now being run at the Apico 2-Stroke Fesyival, it has been decided to offer the chance for young riders on 85cc bikes to compete at Blaxhall as a replacement class.

The decision to include a mixed 85cc class in the Maxxis event came after the success of last year’s class at a previous event and the desire to introduce the top youth riders into a Maxxis event at the award-winning sandy circuit at Blaxhall.

The 85cc class will run alongside the event and will be open to both Big and Small Wheel riders from across the country. All riders will receive a Free Practice session followed by Timed Qualification along with two races during the event.

The top three 85cc Big Wheel and Small Wheel riders will receive awards at the end of the meeting on the podium. The Entry fee for the 85cc class is £65 per rider and will be via the ACU Entry System – www.rideACU.uk and will open on Monday 25th March at 5pm.

Revamped AMCA championship revealed https://www.motoheadmag.com/revamped-amca-championship-revealed/ https://www.motoheadmag.com/revamped-amca-championship-revealed/#respond Mon, 05 Nov 2018 18:44:57 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=16297 The AMCA’s Championship classes will be redefined for the 2019 series with a move away from the established MX1, MX2, Vets, 2T and Youth 85cc classes. Keen to capitalise on the growth and improvements already made to the Championships in recent years, the AMCA have announced that the MX2 class will now include 250cc 2-strokes and a dedicated 125cc 2T up to 150cc 2T class will replace the existing 2T competition. This will result in a Championship event day consisting of five classes – MX1, MX2 (including 250cc 2 strokes), Vets, 125cc-150cc 2T and Youth 85cc which the AMCA believes better caters for the ever-changing demands of their membership.

Additionally the Championship will become a ten round series as the hunger for Championship quality events increases. In previous years the number of rounds has fluctuated from 7 to 9 but increasing the number to 10 is sure to keep attention focussed until the end of the season in the AMCA Championship powered by Datatag and supported by Dunlop.

Registration for the series is now open with full details on www.amca.uk.com Each Championship class will allow a maximum of 40 riders but if that total is exceeded during entry then Qualifying rounds will be run in early March, 2019. There will be no non-qualifiers on the day at the Championships.
