In this time, Yamaha’s off-road motorcycles have secured multiple manufacturer titles, rider world championships and numerous race wins.

This deep-rooted commitment to racing not only ensures that Yamaha’s off-road machines deliver top-tier performance and reliability, but also that they embody the spirit of competition and the relentless pursuit of victory.

Leveraging cutting-edge technology and insights gained from racing some of the world’s most demanding tracks, the 2025 Off Road Competition range is a testament to Yamaha’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of what is possible, offering riders unmatched agility, power and control derived directly from a championship-winning legacy.

In racing, nothing stands still with engineers constantly striving for improvement. For 2025, Yamaha’s race-winning models have been meticulously refined to boost their competitive edge with key improvements in areas critical for gaining time on the track, while improving feeling for the rider.

Meeting the needs of all riders, from the seasoned professional to amateurs and young riders experiencing off-road riding for the first time, Yamaha’s Off Road Competition motorcycles include something for everyone from the YZ450F to the legendary PW50.

A WINNING FORMULA: THE 2025 YZ450F

The ultimate mission of a racing motorcycle is simple: to win races. And the YZ450F is exactly that, the ultimate racing machine.

Engineered with success in mind, the YZ450F is designed for victory. But it doesn’t stop there, as there’s also focus on delivering an exhilarating and enjoyable riding experience.

The foundations the YZ450F is built upon is the application of the ‘winning formula’, recognising that riders progress at their own pace, which in turn adds to their motivation and ultimately leads to better results. For this reason, a rider-centric development approach has been adopted.

The 2025 YZ450F features a new rear suspension linkage to improve stability in a wide variety of riding circumstances. This, combined with revised rear suspension settings, contributes to an improved feeling in traction on corner exit, and lends to a more planted feeling when taking on jumps.

To match the changes at the rear, the front suspension settings have also been updated, including extending the length of the spring to increase internal preload pressure, changing the layered valves from the current circular shape to a more triangular shape and increasing the size of the inflow oil holes to adjust oil flow. This results in a calmer front-end and increases the bike’s overall manoeuvrability. The front suspension changes have also been revised to provide the rider with a more consistent damping feeling across mixed terrains and riding situations, especially under braking and cornering.

New front engine mounts have been designed to improve the overall chassis balance, while matching the changes made to the suspension, altering the chassis rigidity to make it less susceptible to outside forces, ultimately improving stability.

To further enhance the YZ450F’s renowned reliability under hard, continuous use, the clutch’s cooling efficiency has been improved, with the number of holes feeding oil to the clutch plates increasing three-fold from six to 18.

The riding experience has also been refined, with a newly designed seat featuring a single layer of surface material with a seamless design, removing joins and welds, while new aluminium footpeg brackets enable a greater sense of unity with the machine through a firmer hold on the chassis.

A newly designed handlebar switchbox features a ribbed shape to help avoid riders pressing the wrong button while wearing gloves. And to decrease pressure on the rider’s right thumb, the 2025 YZ450F features a new type throttle grip set.

In line with the FIM’s new noise regulations for 2025, the YZ450F sound level is reduced by a new exhaust system. And by optimising the fueling and ignition timing the controllability and throttle connection have been improved to provide a more precise riding character. All of which can be turned using the 1, allowing the rider to personalise their machine set-up with support for changing both engine and suspension settings based on their individual needs.

New graphics complete the 2025 look, while those looking to emulate their MXGP heroes can opt for the Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition, inspired by the colours of the official Yamaha MXGP team. The 2025 YZ450F is available from July onwards.

A PROVEN WINNER: YZ250F

A favourite among riders looking for the ultimate combination of controllable power, agile handling and Yamaha durability, the YZ250F saw a significant update for 2024 including an all-new chassis derived from the YZ450F, plus revised geometry and a re-positioned headpipe, lowering the centre of gravity to enable more agile cornering and rapid directional changes.

Taken to no less than 15 victories in the MX2 class last year with riders Jago Geerts and Thibault Benistant, the YZ250F is a proven contender. This is further refined for 2025, with the new rear suspension linkage and corresponding suspension settings at both the rear and front improving traction on corner exit, taking the YZ250F’s renowned agile handling to the next level on the track.

As with the YZ450F, the exhaust system has been redesigned to produce a lower sound level in line with the FIM’s 2025 noise regulations. Furthermore, the  power characteristics have been refined to produce a smooth and controllable response in the bottom end as well as a linear mid-range.

The Power Tuner app allows for fine tuning of the YZ250F’s power characteristics, for a personalised riding experience. However this is not for UK models.

The switchgear and throttle housing have been refined to improve the rider experience, minimising the risk of hitting the wrong button while wearing gloves while new graphics complete the Icon Blue look.

2023 saw the YZ250F take Yamaha to a fourth consecutive manufacturers championship in MX2, and with the return of the Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition, riders can enjoy this championship-winning performance in Yamaha’s championship-winning MX2 colours.  The 2025 YZ450F is available from August onwards.

REFINEMENT OF LEGENDS

Yamaha has been building two-stroke motocross bikes for over 50 years and for 2025, the legendary YZ250 and YZ125 receive further refinement to enhance the exhilarating experience of riding such iconic machines.

The unrivalled two-stroke experience takes another step into the victoryYZone with a modified radiator and the introduction of tool-less fork compression clickers, making it even more simple to refine the ride. Updated graphics and handlebar pad complete the new look in the new Icon Blue colours, while the YZ250 and YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Editions add the MXGP look to race derived technology. The YZ250 will be available from October onwards and the YZ125 from September onwards.

The YZ two-stroke range is completed with the YZ65 and YZ85, two youth racing machines built using technology developed from their larger siblings. Manufactured to Yamaha’s high standards, these smaller capacity models feature the updated Icon Blue graphics for 2025. The youth motocross models will be available in showrooms from July onwards.

THE PERFECT FIRST STEP

Yamaha has long been committed to meeting the needs of the entire off-road market, with models aimed at all riders from the most capable and talented, to those starting out at any age.

And then there’s the icon: the PW50. Perhaps one of the most famous motorcycles in the world, the ‘PeeWee’ has been the number one choice for a child’s first two-wheel experience for over 40 years. Featuring a fully automatic transmission and handlebar mounted brakes, the lightweight two-stroke is the ultimate beginner’s bike and has sold over 400,000 units to date. The PW50 sees new racing-inspired Icon Blue graphics for 2025.

Masterclass for Yamaha’s top youths https://www.motoheadmag.com/masterclass-for-yamahas-top-youths/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 20:10:43 +0000 https://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=38884 In a thrilling conclusion to this year’s 2023 YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup, Yamaha Motor Europe hosted its two-day Masterclass at the picturesque MC des Costieres circuit in Beauvoisin, France earlier this week. Sixteen young riders from 10 different countries capitalized on the exclusive opportunity to train with motocross legends Gautier Paulin, Nancy van de Ven, and Brian Jorgensen, while vying for the ultimate prize of winning support from Yamaha Motor Europe for their upcoming 2024 racing seasons.

The 2023 YZ Cup finalists, a dynamic group of riders aged 8 to 16, earned their invitations through their standout performances at the 2023 bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup SuperFinale. From the SuperFinale, the top three finishers in each category, along with two wildcards and the best placed female riders in each class were selected to attend the Masterclass. The riders that were invited to participate this year were Giorgio Orlando, Noe Zumstein, Jekabs Kubulins, Maho Simo, and Nellie Fransson in the YZ125 category. Storm Maymann, Davi Dür, Bertram Thorius, Tylan Lagain and Ryan Lustenberger and Elin Rosthen in the YZ85 category, and Willads Gordon, Maurice Heidegger, Jan Huisman, Leo Gajser, and Maria Gandum in the YZ65 class.

This year’s Masterclass underscored Yamaha’s commitment to supporting female riders. Collaborating with former Women’s Motocross World Champion Nancy van de Ven, Yamaha created a fun, inclusive and supportive environment for the young riders. Van de Ven’s presence at the bLU cRU Masterclass provided the riders with a role model, mentor, and source of inspiration. Her achievements and expertise contributed to the overall learning experience and will help shape the future of motocross by empowering the next generation of riders, both male and female.

The warm-up regimen included dynamic exercises designed to elevate heart rates, increase blood flow to muscles, and activate key muscle groups essential for motocross. This proactive approach not only primes the body for optimal performance but also aids in mental focus, ensuring that riders are sharp and responsive on the track.

Throughout the two-day event, young riders received expert guidance on bike set-up, body positioning, and fundamental skills essential to improve confidence, safety, and control on the bike.

The Masterclass is also used as an opportunity for the bLU cRU Ambassadors and Yamaha Motor Europe Racing Committee members to evaluate riders holistically. They are looking for qualities beyond talent, such as a positive attitude, adaptability, determination, and a strong willingness to learn.

As the winner of the YZ125 bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup will receive the coveted prize of a place on a Yamaha Motor Europe supported team, where they will race the full EMX125 series aboard a GYTR kitted YZ125, the bLU cRU Ambassadors put them up against each other in a staggered start “race simulation”. The staggered start added an extra layer of excitement and strategy to the race simulation, as each rider had to navigate through the pack, showcasing not only their speed but also their ability to make strategic moves and tactical decisions on the track.

The “race simulator” initiative was extended to the YZ85 and YZ65 classes this year, providing the coaches with valuable insights into how the young riders handle the pressures of racing and where they can improve. It will also encourage a seamless transition for the youngsters as they progress through different stages of their budding motocross careers.

And in terms of the prize for the younger riders; the selected winners, will receive additional support and GYTR parts from Yamaha Motor Europe for the following season. As the dust settles on the 2023 racing season, the real challenge begins for the bLU cRU ambassadors and the Yamaha Racing committee. With all 16 riders exhibiting exceptional speed, skill, and determination, the task of selecting the winners promises to be an incredible challenge. However, all the of the riders that made it to the SuperFinale, and then on to the Masterclass can be extremely proud of what they have achieved in 2023! The winners will be announced on Friday 24th November at 16:00 (CET).

All-new YZ250F spearheads 2024 Yamaha range https://www.motoheadmag.com/all-new-yz250f-spearheads-2024-yamaha-range/ Thu, 27 Jul 2023 14:49:25 +0000 https://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=38292 A staggering 50 years ago, Yamaha launched its first YZ production motocross models – the same year that the company won its first ever Motocross World Championship with Hakan Andersson on a factory YZM250. It was the beginning of a new era for the sport, and over the last half century Yamaha has established itself as one of the most innovative and competitive brands in the 4-stroke and 2-stroke classes.

Yamaha is marking this significant moment in the company’s history with an all new YZ250F that has been created with the immense knowledge gained during half a century of competition in every major GP category. To commemorate 50 successful years since the first Yamaha YZ models made a lasting impact on the motocross racing world, the 2024 line-up will include exclusive YZ250F, YZ450F, YZ250 and YZ125 50 Anniversary Edition models. Featuring racing white bodywork, purple seats, black wheels and retro-styled purple/pink graphics, these 50 Anniversary Edition bikes offer every Yamaha rider the chance to be a part of this very special occasion.

The 50 Anniversary Edition colouring is inspired by the bold designs used on the YZ250 and YZ125 in the mid-1990s – a period of transition for Yamaha motocross machines which was soon to be followed by the arrival of the first YZ 4-stroke in 1998 and the beginning of a new era of ‘Yamaha Blue’ colours for the company’s Off Road Competition models.

The introduction of the new YZ250F reinforces the range to make the 2024 Yamaha Off Road Competition line-up stronger than ever – with a diverse choice of 4-strokes, 2-strokes, motocross, enduro, youth and kids’ bikes.

New generation YZ250F: Lighter, sharper and more advanced

The YZ250F has proved beyond doubt that it is one of the most competitive 250cc 4-stroke motocross bikes at every level. With a distinguished race winning record in Motocross Grand Prix and US Supercross – as well as three consecutive MX2 Manufacturer’s World Championships – this bike is a born winner.

For the 2024 model year Yamaha introduce the new generation YZ250F that features an all-new YZ450F-based frame, ultra-compact bodywork, increased mid to high speed power and improved tuning functionalities with the new Power Tuner App. By retaining the highly acclaimed strengths of the existing model, the 2024 YZ250F is designed to give an easier, smoother and faster ride.

The new generation YZ250F is equipped with an all-new aluminium frame that has been proven on the latest YZ450F. This new frame provides lighter and easier handling and gives more feedback – enabling the rider to push harder and exploit more fully the YZ250F’s powerful low to mid rpm torque.

The key improvement on the new lightweight frame is the relocation of the head pipe which is now 15mm lower – a significant change which centralizes the bike’s mass for increased handling agility and quicker directional changes. The new head pipe is also thinner and lighter and contributes towards the reduced weight of the new YZ250F.

To match the new head pipe the tank rails are also mounted much lower for 2024 and incorporate a new U-shaped profile at the rear that changes the frame’s balance of rigidity in order to achieve an idealized degree of controlled flex. With its revised layout giving a lower centre of gravity – combined with improved shock absorption – the all-new chassis promotes the sense of rider/machine unity and delivers faster and more agile cornering.

All-new bodywork gives the new YZ250F a much tighter, lighter and slimmer look and feel, and this contributes towards making the bike easier, smoother and faster. The complete bodywork is new for 2024, and like the new frame, is based on the successful design used on the latest YZ450F.

The shroud width is 50mm narrower, making it easier for the rider to shift bodyweight forwards. Rider mobility is also enhanced by the new seamless seat which is 6mm narrower and also much fatter, with the height difference between the front and rear reduced by 15mm for the 2024 model.

The compact, newly designed front fender promotes better airflow to the radiators for improved cooling efficiency – and the short and flat rear fender and slim side panels further enhance the tighter and lighter look of this new generation 250cc 4-stroke.

Subtle but significant improvements are made to the YZ250F’s ergonomics with detail changes to the geometry of the rider triangle. The new flatter seat is 5mm higher, while footpegs are mounted 5mm lower, giving a total 10mm increase for a more flexible leg position. Handlebar position is relocated closer back towards the rider, and together with the new seat and footpeg positions this gives improved ergonomics and increased controllability, enabling the rider to optimize the increased agility of the new chassis.

The KYB suspension is widely regarded as being one of the best in class, and for 2024 the new generation YZ250F’s forks and rear shock internals are added to bring out the optimum

performance of the new frame. Revised front and rear damping settings offer improved shock absorption and traction, and a new hand adjustable compression damping system on the front forks makes suspension set up quicker and easier.

For added protection against scratches and debris the fork shrouds wrap further around the sides of the inner tubes, and for increased durability the KYB forks are equipped with new longlip seals that prevent dirt ingress.

The rear brake plays a key role in directional changes as well as effective corner entry and also when adjusting machine angle when in the air, and the degree of feel transmitted to the rider is crucial for maintaining control. For this reason, the YZ250F is equipped with a new rear hose with reduced rigidity that improves the balance of the brake input and gives the rider more accurate control.

A new high efficiency air management system is used on the new YZ250F, with air now entering the airbox via a new rear duct system as featured on the MXGP and AMA SX race winning YZ450F. The compact new bodywork features ducts in the new side panels, frame and tank that channel fresh air into a new high capacity round profile air filter with a 30% increase in cleanside capacity – and the lower case is now made from rubber instead of plastic to promote air intake pulsation. The new rear duct air flow design contributes towards the increased mid to high speed performance and over rev characteristics of the 250cc 4-stroke reverse-head engine.

A new ECU features updated fuel and ignition mapping that is designed to optimize the performance gains achieved by the various engine changes. Riders familiar with the current model will feel the increased mid to high range performance that, together with the bike’s legendary low to mid-range torque, make the new YZ250F even more competitive in all conditions.

The YZ250F engine is renowned for its strong low to mid-range torque and high levels of controllability, and these strengths have made it one of the leading 250cc 4-strokes in motocross. Yamaha’s engineers have concentrated on retaining all of the positive attributes of this winning engine for 2024, while also working hard to increase its high speed performance.

To accommodate the increased performance the YZ250F is equipped with a new low friction cam chain that is wider and more durable. The DOHC engine also features new camchain sprockets as well as new tensioner settings that optimize the efficiency of the uprated engine.

The 2024 YZ250F is equipped with a new Traction Control System that offers two levels of assistance as well as an OFF function. Operated by the latest Power Tuner App, this system is designed to give the rider increased controllability on wet or loose surfaces – and by preventing the machine losing traction entirely it enables the rider to fully concentrate on the track ahead.

The YZ250F benefits from a new Launch Control System with ‘Rev limit’ function that gives the rider the option to set with maximum launch rpm between 6.000 rpm and 11.000 rpm in 500 rpm increments. This launch Control allows the rider to power off the line at full throttle and concentrate fully on getting the holeshot.

When the launch control system recognizes that the start has been completed the Rev limit function automatically turns off and when 3rd gear is reached the Launch Control system is deactivated.

Yamaha’s Power Tuner App is one of the most significant developments in recent years. The company was an early pioneer of wireless engine tuning, and the latest generation system is designed to be even easier to use. The 2024 YZ250F Power Tuner App now features a “Quick Tuning” option with a scrollbar that runs from ‘Smooth’ to ‘Aggressive’. It’s the easiest and most intuitive system ever used on the bike, and it is designed for superfast trackside tuning.

And the latest Power Tuner retains the 4×4 matrix that allows detailed mapping changes designed for professional teams that want to achieve the ultimate performance – and there’s a new multifunction switch that enables the YZ250F rider to switch between two uploaded mappings during a session.

The Power Tuner App can also be used to set the YZ250F’s traction control and launch control parameters, and the system can also record lap by lap data, allowing the team and rider to evaluate the effectiveness of various different mapping settings.

YZ250F 50 Anniversary Edition

It is 50 years since the Yamaha brand entered the motocross scene with its first production bikes, and during this half century the company’s YZ models have established themselves as some of the most competitive and innovative machines in every major category.

The new YZ250F 50 Anniversary Edition celebrates this significant chapter in the YZ’s history, and also highlights Yamaha’s first ever Motocross World Championship title. Featuring an exclusive 1990’s inspired historic colour scheme together with all of the sophisticated technology found on the latest generation YZ250F, this 50 Anniversary Edition gives riders the chance to own an exclusive machine. Yamaha pioneers ‘green’ aluminium for MX https://www.motoheadmag.com/yamaha-pioneers-green-aluminium-for-mx/ Thu, 02 Mar 2023 20:26:36 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=37285 Yamaha has reached an agreement with an aluminium ingot supplier for the procurement of green aluminium, and began using it as a raw material for parts in Yamaha motorcycles in February 2023. This is the first time for green aluminium to be used in Japanese motorcycles and Yamaha Motor plans to gradually expand its usage in models going forward.

“Green aluminium” is aluminium that is refined using renewable energy sources to emit around 60% less CO2 in its manufacture compared to traditionally refined aluminium. Of course, the percentage of less emission by renewable energy depends per manufacturer. Aluminium parts account for 12% to 31% of the total vehicle weight of a motorcycle, so adopting green aluminium is one effective approach for reducing CO₂ emissions from the raw material manufacturing part of a product’s life cycle.

Through the development of its engineering and production technologies and expertise, Yamaha Motor has actively pushed the use of recycled aluminium, which now comprises 80% of Yamaha Motor’s aluminium usage. This introduction of green aluminium is meant to complement this and will be employed for parts that still cannot be manufactured with recycled materials. As a first step, Yamaha Motor will utilize green aluminium for certain parts in its large-displacement and off-road competition motorcycles, and Yamaha Motor plans to expand the number of models using the material in the future as available supply volumes allow.

In line with the Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050, the company is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality throughout all of its business activities—including its entire supply chain—by 2050. To realize this, Yamaha Motor has set a goal of switching to 100% sustainable materials by 2050, such as adopting more plant-derived resin materials, developing recyclable polypropylene, and adopting green materials and other recycled materials for its motorcycles manufactured in Japan and overseas.

Yamaha reveals EMX rider line-ups https://www.motoheadmag.com/yamaha-reveals-emx-rider-line-ups/ Wed, 16 Nov 2022 14:14:02 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=36305

Yamaha has confirmed the Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 team will field a strong three-rider line-up in 2023, while the MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 team will field an all-new and potent two-rider line-up for its 2023 EMX125 Championship campaign. Yamaha and Hutten Metaal have retained EMX250 title challenger Andrea Bonacorsi for a third season and are poised to welcome Ivano van Erp and Karlis Reisulis as they step up the Yamaha Racing pyramid. At the same time, Yamaha is excited to welcome Janis Reisulis and Julius Mikula to the MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 team. All five riders will campaign GYTR-kitted versions of the YZ250F and YZ125 in their respective championships.

Impressive right from the get-go, Bonacorsi has been a force to be reckoned with during his first two seasons with Yamaha inside the highly competitive EMX250 class. The young Italian celebrated two race wins and three podium finishes in his rookie season and added to that with another race win and four pieces of podium silverware, of which one was a maiden overall victory, in 2022. Going into his third consecutive season in the MX2-feeder class, the goal for ‘Bona’ is clear; he is going for the title.

As a two-time Junior World Champion, having claimed the 65cc World Championship title in 2017 and the 125cc crown this year, Dutch prodigy Van Erp is looking forward to his debut season in EMX250 with the Dutch-based Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 team. The 17-year-old talent joins Yamaha’s Official EMX250 squad after five years with Yamaha and three brilliant years with the MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 team in the EMX125 Championship, in which he celebrated seven stunning race wins and six overall victories aboard a GYTR-kitted YZ125.

Like Van Erp, K.Reisulis will also move up the Yamaha Racing Pyramid after two incredible years with the MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 team. In 2021, the Latvian bounced back from a costly pre-season injury to end his first full EMX125 term with two podium finishes. The 16-year-old eventually proved his true potential, starting this year fit and healthy to finish as the EMX125 Championship runner-up after a brilliant race win and five podium finishes.

All set for an exciting EMX125 campaign, the MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 team is thrilled to welcome two of Europe’s quickest youngsters, J.Reisulis and Mikula. J.Reisulis, the younger brother of K.Reisulis, has already established himself as a name for the future. The phenomenally talented young Latvian made his EMX125 debut in 2022 and, at the tender age of 13, finished on the podium at round one. He then continued his stunning form throughout the year and ended the season third overall with five podium finishes, which includes a stunning round win in Lommel, Belgium.

Mikula enjoyed a solid second term inside the EMX125 Championship in 2022, proving his potential with a podium finish in Lommel, Belgium, and a further two top-five finishes during the season.

Andrea Bonacorsi

Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 rider

“I’m really happy to stay with Yamaha and the Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 team for a third straight year. I had a really good rookie season with them, which I am proud of, although this year was a bit tougher. The team always supported me through the highs and lows, and I have learned a lot. After these past two seasons, I feel stronger and ready for the challenge of taking the title next season!”

Ivano Van Erp

Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 rider

“I have been inside the Yamaha Family for five years, so it feels amazing to stay with Yamaha for another season. It’s always nice to be on the Official team, even more so when you are a rookie. I was already practicing on a YZ250F at the start of this season, so I know I like the bike and I’m looking forward to racing it next year. As a rookie, I will arrive with no expectations. It’s important I take the experience, have fun and enjoy my riding.”

Karlis Reisulis

Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 rider

“It sure feels great to stay with Yamaha and to join the Official EMX250 team, which I know operates at a high level. I think it is a great opportunity and a great way to start my EMX250 chapter. After two good years with Yamaha, I have already been riding on a YZ250F, and I love the bike. I will go into next year aiming to qualify at every round and score good points. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Janis Reisulis

MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 Rider

“I am really excited to join Yamaha and the MJC team. It’s a great opportunity for me, and I look forward to the new chapter. I always dreamed of racing a YZ125, so this is a little flex! I’ve done some testing and riding on the bike, and I think my YZ125 is perfect. I enjoy riding it. In 2023, my goal is to win the European Championship and it would be perfect to add a world title to my list of achievements too.”

Julius Mikula

MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 Rider

“I’m very excited to join Yamaha. I look forward to the new experience. It is very motivating, and I already feel good and confident on the YZ125. I want to be top three in the European Championship next year and top three in the world too. The plan of attack is to stay healthy and keep improving.”

Thorsten Lentink

Yamaha Motor Europe MX Racing Coordinator

“2023 will be an exciting year for us inside both EMX250 and EMX125 Championships. We are happy to keep Andrea in blue for another year and have him lead the way with his strength and experience in the EMX250 class for our youngsters, Karlis and Ivano, making a step up the Yamaha Racing Pyramid. It’s always a pleasure to keep talented riders, like these three, within the Yamaha Family. We’re also pleased to strengthen our relationship with Hutten Metaal as it enters its fourth year as our Official EMX250 team.

In the 125 ranks, we have an exciting season ahead as we welcome two very talented youngsters to the MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 team. Janis, the younger brother of Karlis (Reisulis), is a rider we have watched intently this season and were very impressed with his speed and ability. Despite his young age, he has quickly progressed to the top of the ranks in the EMX125 class and is a hugely exciting prospect for the future. We are also happy to welcome Julius, a rider who has made incredible progress inside the EMX125 class over the past two seasons and a rider that we are confident will continue to grow and develop with our support.”

Yamaha confirms its 2023 MXGP line up https://www.motoheadmag.com/yamaha-confirms-its-2023-mxgp-line-up/ Thu, 13 Oct 2022 15:06:29 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=36081 Yamaha Motor Europe is pleased to announce that Jeremy Seewer, Maxime Renaux and Glenn Coldenhoff will remain with the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team in 2023, racing the premier class of the FIM Motocross World Championship, with all three riders targeting the MXGP crown aboard the Factory YZ450FM.

Filling three of the top-five places in the 2022 MXGP World Championship standings, Seewer, Renaux and Coldenhoff put in some outstanding performances this year, with their combined total of 22 podium finishes ensuring that Yamaha secured the manufacturer’s championship title in MXGP for the first time since 2015.

Set to enter his sixth season with Yamaha in MXGP, five-time FIM Motocross World Championship runner-up Seewer will once again chase a maiden FIM Motocross World Title. The Swiss star finished second in the 2022 MXGP World Championship after taking his YZ450FM to five race wins and nine podium finishes, of which three were Grand Prix wins.

Last year’s MX2 World Champion, Renaux, was impressive in his debut season in MXGP. The 22-year-old quickly adapted to the YZ450FM and took the fight to even the most experienced 450cc riders. Finishing the season as the best-placed rookie, the young Frenchman celebrated four qualifying race wins, six championship race wins, seven podium finishes, of which one was a Grand Prix victory, on his way to a creditable fourth in the world ranking.

Coldenhoff enjoyed a positive second term with Yamaha in which he made encouraging progress. The ‘259’ took his YZ450FM to three race wins, a Grand Prix win and a further five podium finishes to round out the top-five in 2022.

Jeremy Seewer

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider

“It’s great to stay with the same teammates in 2023. I signed my contract for 2023 quite a while ago, so I knew I would be here, but it’s nice to grow together. I started with Yamaha in 2018 and I will be on blue in ’23, so it’s my sixth year. It’s nice to have familiarity, and we have a lot of exciting things ahead of us, so I am looking forward to seeing what we can do.”

Maxime Renaux

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider

“It’s good to know we will have a strong team again. I signed a two-year deal in 2021, which was good to have two years to build in MXGP. We already started quite well this season, so I am happy with the progress I have made in my move to the YZ450FM, and thankful that Yamaha has supported me fully in my decision to step up. We will be ready to go in 2023 where the goal will be to keep building in confidence and experience, so I am really looking forward to it.”

Glenn Coldenhoff

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider

“I’m really happy. I’ve been with Yamaha for two years, and this season, I feel like we have made some big improvements. I am looking forward to keeping the same group of people around me. We have built such a strong relationship in a short time, and they have always stood behind me, so I really appreciate that. I like the set-up and the people we have around us from the osteopath to the trainer, all these things contribute something, and I think this is important. Here, I have everything I need, and we have some even better things coming, so I look forward to it, and I am ready to go for it again next year.”

Alexandre Kowalski

Yamaha Motor Europe Off-Road Racing Manager

“We’re really pleased to continue with Jeremy, Glenn and Maxime for at least another season. These three riders have all demonstrated their ability to fight for race wins and the title with the multiple podiums and victories we have had this year. In addition, all three finished inside the top five in the championship this season, which shows great consistency, and this is also important, as consistency is the key to success in any form of motorsport. Jeremy and Maxime have been with Yamaha for many years and have both been fundamental factors in Yamaha’s success. They are key members of the Yamaha Family and we’re extremely happy to continue the story with them along with Glenn, our newest rider and one that has made great progress aboard the YZ450FM this season. We are confident in this line-up, and while we are still fully focused on finishing the 2022 season strong at the Motocross of Nations in the USA, we are proud to know we will have the same strong team in place for 2023.”

Louis Vosters

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team Owner

“I’m really happy with this strong line up. When we look at the results from this year with these three riders, we were there fighting for the win every weekend. We have had 22 podiums; five GP wins and all three riders finished inside the top five in the championship. I am happy that we can continue building on these results with the three strong riders we have.”

Yamaha reveals three-rider MX2 GP team https://www.motoheadmag.com/yamaha-reveals-three-rider-mx2-gp-team/ Wed, 31 Aug 2022 10:17:16 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=35745 Yamaha Motor Europe is pleased to confirm a three-rider line-up for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team in 2023. Yamaha and the team have retained title challengers Jago Geerts and Thibault Benistant for another season and are poised to welcome the recently crowned EMX250 Champion Rick Elzinga into the fray. All three riders have signed on to campaign the factory Yamaha YZ250FM in the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship.

With 32 race wins and 42 podiums to his credit already in MX2, Geerts is a proven title contender. The 22-year-old Belgian is again chasing his first world title in MX2 this season and currently holds a 2-point lead in the series with only one round remaining.

While his goal is to win the MX2 crown this year and then successfully defend it next, Geerts is also looking forward to making his MXGP debut aboard a factory Yamaha YZ450FM in 2024.

Geerts’ title hopes in 2023 will not be without a challenge from teammate Benistant, who has secured both the EMX125 and EMX250 championship titles during his ten-year tenure with Yamaha. Despite his rookie MX2 season in 2021 being disrupted by injury, the 20-year-old Frenchman racked up two race wins and a podium finish, ending the season eighth in the standings.

Benistant’s form has continued into 2022, with the youngster again overcoming an injury that saw him sit out the first three rounds to claim a maiden Grand Prix victory, four race wins and five podium finishes, placing him fifth in the series standings with one round remaining.

At the same time, Elzinga has worked up the Yamaha Racing pyramid with podium finishes in EMX125, aboard a GYTR kitted YZ125, and a stellar EMX250 title campaign aboard a GYTR kitted YZ250F in which he celebrated four round wins, five race wins, and six podium finishes on his way to the crown.

As the freshly crowned European EMX250 Champion, Elzinga has earned his place on the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team for his first full season in MX2.

Jago Geerts

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team

“This is my fifth year with Yamaha and I’m really happy to extend my contract for another two years. I work well with the team, and we already have a good bike set up, so it’s nice going into the winter period with a strong base. The goal will be the same as it is this year, we want to fight for the world title again, and I think we will be there. I am really looking forward to it.”

Thibault Benistant

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team

“I have been with Yamaha for a long time, since I was racing on a YZ125, so I am happy to continue with them for at least another two years. I feel good on the factory YZ250FM, and I have a lot of confidence in the team around me, so I’m certain we can be contenders for the World Championship title. Thanks to my team for their support and thanks to Yamaha for believing in me.”

Rick Elzinga

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team

“Becoming a Factory rider is so motivating. I have done a few rounds of MX2 this year as a wild card rider, and I loved it. Racing at the highest level with Yamaha’s most prestigious MX2 team is a dream come true. It has given me an extra boost of motivation to give even more, and I am determined to get the job done in MX2 next year.”

Alexandre Kowalski

Yamaha Motor Europe Off-Road Racing Manager

“We are happy to extend our deal with Jago and Thibault and to welcome Rick to the Factory team. All three riders are very talented title contenders. Jago has consistently demonstrated his title potential with multiple race wins and podium finishes, only missing out on the ultimate prize through bad luck. He finished third in 2019 and second in 2020 and 2021, so his goal for this season and next, is clear; to first win and then successfully defend the world title. We truly believe he has the ability and the support necessary to achieve these goals. As for Thibault, he is a product of Yamaha’s racing program having been with us for more than 10-years. With Yamaha, he has progressed through the ranks, securing the EMX125 title on a YZ125 and the EMX250 title on a GYTR kitted YZ250F, and it’s a similar story for Rick too. Both are perfect examples of how a rider can develop and progress within the Yamaha Family. We look forward to celebrating even more achievements in the future.”

Hans Corvers

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team Owner

“We are happy to have retained both Jago and Thibault for next season, as both have shown that they are title contenders, and to strengthen our line-up with this years’ European EMX250 Champion Rick. As a team, we go into every season determined to fight for the world title, so it’s satisfying to know that once again we have three riders who are more than capable of helping us to achieve our ultimate goal. It’s not so easy to secure riders of this calibre, and the fact that both Jago and Thibault have opted to remain with us reflects favourably on both the team and on Yamaha. We’re looking forward to next season. We know we have a good package and now we also know we have the riders to exploit it to the full.”

Yamaha unveils new electric trials bike https://www.motoheadmag.com/yamaha-unveils-new-electric-trials-bike/ Thu, 24 Mar 2022 11:50:39 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=34260 Yamaha has developed the TY-E 2.0 electric trials bike, which approaches achieving carbon neutrality from the perspective of motorcycling fun. The Company plans to enter the bike in select rounds of the 2022 FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) Trial World Championship.

In 2021, the Company reviewed the Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050 originally formulated in 2018 and set a new goal of aiming for carbon neutrality throughout all of its business activities—including across the life cycles of its products—by 2050.

The project to develop the TY-E 2.0 is underway as one uniquely Yamaha approach for achieving carbon neutrality. Under its FUN x EV development concept, the TY-E 2.0 aims to provide more fun than internal combustion engines by taking advantage of the traits unique to electric vehicles, such as powerful low-down torque and strong acceleration.

The TY-E 2.0’s development progressed based on the first TY-E model announced in 2018, and features a newly designed monocoque frame made of composite laminates housing an electric power unit with improved performance through a combination of mechanical parts and electronic control. The bike also mounts a newly developed lightweight battery with approximately 2.5 times the capacity of the previous model.

The new TY-E 2.0 is scheduled to participate in the FIM Trial World Championship from June this year with Kenichi Kuroyama on the Yamaha Factory Racing Team, who also serves as its development rider. The TY-E 2.0 will also be exhibited at the Yamaha Motor booth at the 49th Tokyo Motorcycle Show to be held from March 25 to 27.

Bonacorsi’s Yamaha GP call-up at Matterley https://www.motoheadmag.com/bonacorsis-yamaha-gp-call-up-at-matterley/ Fri, 18 Feb 2022 18:57:44 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=33894 Andrea Bonacorsi will replace the injured Thibault Benistant under the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 awning at this weekends’ MX2 Grand Prix of Great Britain. The event marks the start of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship, which will take place at the spectacular Matterley Basin circuit in Winchester, England, on Sunday 20th February.

Already a proven talent following a dominant EMX125 title campaign in 2020, in which he celebrated seven race wins, four overall victories and five podium finishes on his way to the crown, Bonacorsi was welcomed into the Yamaha Family at the start of 2021. After a strong rookie season in EMX250 in which he steered his GYTR kitted YZ250F to three podium finishes on his way to fourth overall, the 18-year-old has impressed, earning himself the opportunity to make his MX2 debut with the support of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team.

Hailing from Bergamo, Italy, the talented youngster will use the wild card experience as part of his preparation for the upcoming 2022 European Motocross Championship, which will start on the weekend of March 6th in Mantova, Italy.

Andrea Bonacorsi

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider

“Racing for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team is really special and it’s something I’ve always dreamed of ever since I was a kid. It really is a dream come true, and to get this opportunity to race at Matterley… it is one of my favourite tracks. I’m really looking forward to making my MX2 debut there, and I hope to bring home as much experience as possible!”

Alexandre Kowalski

Yamaha Motor Europe MX Racing Manager

“It has been a great pleasure to offer Andrea a chance to make his MX2 debut as a Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider. It is a symbol of our commitment to the next generation of young riders that are developing within our system. We already know Andrea is an incredible talent, evidenced by his EMX125 title and a strong rookie season in EMX250 last year, where he showed impressive strength and racecraft aboard his GYTR kitted YZ250F. Although he is still young, only 18-years-old, we are very optimistic that he can put in a strong performance at the MX2 opener this weekend. We also have to thank the Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 team for supporting us and Andrea in taking this incredible opportunity and the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team for making it happen. Of course, our thoughts are also with Thibault, who has had a successful knee surgery last year and will be back on the bike soon. We are wishing Andrea, the team and all Yamaha riders a successful start to their 2022 campaigns at Matterley Basin this weekend.”
