Retro – MotoHead https://www.motoheadmag.com Fresh dirt bike action for the real MotoHead! Fri, 13 Dec 2024 11:49:05 +0000 en-GB hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.6.2 https://www.motoheadmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/cropped-MotoSquareWebBlack-02-32x32.jpg Retro – MotoHead https://www.motoheadmag.com 32 32 British Evo championships expand https://www.motoheadmag.com/british-evo-championships-expand/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 11:49:02 +0000 https://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=41488 A new collaboration between Kent-based X-Bladez Events, and Bedfordshire-based Luton & District MX Club, will see two ACU Championships enhanced for 2025; the Evo and Super Evo British Championships.

The four-round series will provide one qualifying session and two races per championship at each of the four rounds. The first two rounds will run alongside the ACU British Vet Championships at Toddington in Bedfordshire. The final two rounds will see the Evo competitors travel to the home of the Evo class at Sellindge in Kent for the ACU Apico British 2-Stroke Festival, featuring the Red Bull Pro Stroke National.

The dates for the series are;

Round 1 – 14th June, Toddington

Round 2 – 15th June, Toddington

Round 3 – 9th August, Sellindge

Round 4 – 10th August, Sellindge

There will be 30 places available for both the Evo and Super Evo series. Both groups will compete on the same track at the same time, but with split gate drops; Super Evo first, following by Evo some 20 to 30 seconds later. Points scored from each race will count for the overall championship positions for each class.

Commenting on this initiative for a sector of motocross that continues to grow in terms of competitiveness and popularity, Dave Willet, the Apico 2-Stroke Festival promoter said; “Obviously, we have catered for these classes at the Festival with an ACU British Championship for both classes since 2019.

“It is hugely popular, giving two-stroke riders of all ages, abilities and machinery the ability to race in a British Championship. It’s a fantastic spectacle with the sound and smell creating an atmosphere like no other. I’m excited that we can now grow this sector further by teaming up with the guys at Luton & District and forming this alliance. We will work closely together for the good of the sport, sharing ideas and maximising exposure for the championships and riders.”

Knight heads Manx VMXDN team https://www.motoheadmag.com/knight-heads-manx-vmxdn-team/ Wed, 25 Jan 2023 14:53:06 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=36773 Five-times world champion David Knight MBE is entered as part of a three man team, riding in the International VMXdN race representing team Isle of Man at the 2023 VMXDN Foxhill on August Bank holiday weekend at the iconic Foxhill Grand Prix circuit in Wiltshire.

The team is consisting of-

  • David Knight MBE who will be riding a KTM 300 with number 101
  • Danny McCanney riding a Honda 250 with number 102
  • Gavin Hunt riding a KTM 300 with number 103

The IOM team is an added interest into an already stacked field. The event is looking to be bigger and better than the awesome 2022 event which many who attended say is the greatest race in the UK calendar. Event promoters Dave King and Rob Walters are preparing for the event to be 50% bigger than the inaugural race.

The promotion team say: “We are flat out putting plans in place for a new 70 acre car parking facility, which will be on the top side of the circuit to get the day spectators in cars off the road quickly to ease any of the traffic entering and exiting the circuit. This will leave the paddock with more space to park both the riders as well as camping. We have a crew of specialist parking attendants to make sure we make the most of the space with the correct access points needed.

“We also have an all new security firm in place consisting of ex-police and service personnel – all very respectful but these guys don’t take any messing about!

There will be added infrastructure for 2023 with regard to toilets and bins, as well as four times the volume in food and drink suppliers to handle the crowds expected… its going to be awesome.”

Maggiora to hold retro international in April https://www.motoheadmag.com/maggiora-to-hold-retro-international-in-april/ Mon, 15 Feb 2021 12:00:11 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=28591 The legendary Maggiora track in Italy is back and will host a two-day event for old-school bikes on April 17-18. It is the first international vintage motorcycle championship officially recognised by FIM Europe, the European Motorcycle Federation, says organisers FXAction Group.

The event will be run alongside the Italian motocross championship on the track that has hosted many GPs and MX des Nations, including the classic 1986 event won by team USA. It’s a fitting return for the circuit which in recent years faced closure.

There will be classes for Evo, Super Evo and Open for bikes over 350cc. For 2021, the championship will just be this event but the organisers aim for it to grow in future.

“This is clearly a first experiment,” says organiser Mario Volpe. “But I am proud that Italy is the promoter of the first international championship in the world of vintage motocross”.

“Vintage motorcycling has huge numbers of riders that do not exist in any other nation. It was not easy to design regulations suitable for both European level competition and an Italian championship one, but in the end we succeeded and now I can’t wait for the race.

“Maggiora is one of the most important tracks in the history of world motocross and returning to racing with vintage motorcycles on such a facility is extraordinary. In my opinion all the tracks of the Italian vintage championship should have important history. It is an objective we will work towards for the future .”

Bradshaw wins first Evo GP! https://www.motoheadmag.com/bradshaw-wins-first-evo-gp/ https://www.motoheadmag.com/bradshaw-wins-first-evo-gp/#respond Mon, 26 Jun 2017 22:32:35 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=7926 Former British Supercross champ Nev Bradshaw took the overall win in the first ever Evo GP at Teme in Worcester. He had two wins in a second after battling with Ben Saunders, reliving their on-track scraps from 14 years ago!

Riding a Suzuki owned by James Painton, Bradshaw wasn’t the only former pro rider as he Suzuki team boss, ex British champ Neil Prince, also raced.

The all-new event was held on a natural track that got a huge thumbs-up from all the riders. There was also an emotional start to proceedings with a lap of honour being ridden in memory of Georgie Evans who tragically lost her life in a traffic collision last year.

US champ Osborne to race Vets Nations! https://www.motoheadmag.com/us-champ-osborne-race-vets-nations/ https://www.motoheadmag.com/us-champ-osborne-race-vets-nations/#respond Thu, 18 May 2017 11:04:53 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=7184 Newly-crowned American 250 Supercross champ Zach Osborne will race in the Vets Nations at Farleigh Castle on September 16-17, event organisers have announced.

Husky ace Osborne, who bulldozed rival Joey Savatgy out of the last corner at the recent Las Vegas Supercross to take the title and was fined $7500 for doing so, has already raced old bikes before.

When he was based in the UK and rode for the Dixon Yamaha team, he borrowed a 1981 Yamaha YZ125H for a twin-shock meeting and, of course, cleaned up.

He’ll ride an old Husqvarna at the event. Robert Jonas, the boss of Husky motorsport, rode the Farleigh event last year and is a huge fan.
