The likeable and popular Scotsman will be no doubt be a big hit with the British fans, no more so than in his native country when the tour arrives at the P&J Live Arena in Aberdeen on Saturday 8th February. Although Wilson has spent the majority of his career racing on the other side of the Atlantic, he’s proud of his Scottish roots and when the opportunity came along to represent Great Britain at the Motocross of Nations he was honoured to step up to the plate and give it his best shot, which he did on the six occasions he raced for Team GB.

Now he has another opportunity to ‘come home’ and for the first time race for a British title in his long and illustrious career. Something ‘Deano’ is relishing….

“I’m excited to be coming back to the UK to race the Arenacross World Tour and British championship and in particular going back home to Scotland to race” says the likeable ‘Deano’. “I’ve never raced a national championship in Britain and it’s something I’ve wanted to do before hanging up my boots and helmet. I’ve been watching the series for the last couple of years and seen Tommy (Searle), Conrad (Mewse) and Jack (Brunell) go at it and been thinking to myself, ‘I’d like to get out there and bang bars, join the party and have some fun with them’. Of course, I want to win the British and AX World Tour championships, I’m definitely not coming over to make up the numbers or as a show pony. Once the show starts and the gate drops I’ll be focusing on the win, but I also want to embrace the experience. From what I’ve seen it’s one hell of a show and I’m looking forward to catching up with all the British fans and a lot of my friends in the U.K. I’m genuinely pumped about racing Arenacross and coming back home for a while.”

Arenacross owner and promoter Matt Bates is also really happy with the acquisition of having one the U.K’s most successful and popular motocross riders joining the AX World Tour and British Arenacross championship.

“Dean is a true legend of the sport and will be a huge asset to Arenacross. Not just for winning AMA championships and Supercross main events, but for his all-round popularity both on and off the racetrack. I’m sure I’m speaking for every UK motocross fan when I say that it will be a truly amazing sight to see him compete for his first British title on home soil – and for his first time racing indoors in Scotland”.

For his assault on both indoor championships, Wilson will be teaming up with someone he’s worked closely with before, Team GB’s MX of Nations team manager Mark Chamberlain. Mark, along with Steve and Andy Annear at St Blazey MX have put together the best racing package for Deano to try and get the job done and win his first official British title, as Mark explains;

“We’re all buzzing on putting together the ‘Armor Vision powered by St Blazey MX Team’ for Deano to come over and race at home. Steve and Andy at St Blazey MX have been lifelong family friends so to make a team with them and have someone of Deano’s level and character is a perfect combination all round. We’re excited to get him over and in front of the British Fans. Arenacross is a great series for the sport, and we are happy to be supporting it as much as possible! Roll on January.”

The 30-year-old Scot will race in the WSX (450cc) class, alongside world class names such as two-time World Supercross champion Chad Reed from Australia, former World Motocross champion from Germany Ken Roczen, and former World Supercross champion and current AMA Supercross Champion, Eli Tomac.

Wilson has yet to finalise and announce which of the 10 exclusively licenced Teams, he will compete with.

Wilson, who boasts a US Pro Motocross title to his name and a best of sixth in the World Supercross Championship in 2019, said, “Despite all my years competing in supercross in the USA, I’ve never had the chance to do so in front of a home crowd, so I’m naturally really excited for the new World Supercross Championship to be coming to the UK and to Cardiff. Hopefully I’ll be able to feed on that and challenge for the win, in front of my friends and family.”

Supercross is the spectacle of intense dirt bike racing in a stadium environment and combines the adrenaline-fueled action with live music, freestyle motocross stunts, and awe-inspiring pyrotechnics, making it a perfect family night out.

Anstie has caight Covis while Wilson has Bpstein-Barr virus.

Anstie said:Ok… spanner to the plan or wrench in the works – I’m positive for COVID. I felt good all week but now I feel like I have been run over by a bus so that’s me out of action until I feel better! “

And Wilson said: “Not the news I wanted to put out but for my well being it’s the best case.
I as well as the team have decided to take time off due to the EBV virus I have been battling all summer. I showed up and pushed through it each race but there comes a point you will keep digging yourself a deeper hole. Even though I was cranking out top 10s I was still no where I should be. But anyways going to take this time to rest & get my energy/blood levels back where they need to be. Thank you all for the support!”

Historic Husqvarna clean-sweep of the 450SX podium with Briton Wilson third as Osborne wins from Anderson
It was a historic day for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team as the brand swept the 450SX podium at the final round of the 2020 AMA Supercross World Championship Series in Salt Lake City. With first-time 450SX winner Zach Osborne at the helm, teammates Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson contributed to the trio leading all 25 laps of Sunday’s Main Event to end the season on a high note in Utah. Additionally, team rider Michael Mosiman topped off the team’s successful day with a podium finish in the highly-competitive 250SX East/West Showdown Main Event.

450SX
Osborne suffered a hard crash during the day’s qualifying, where he was able to salvage 15th in the combined sessions. He bounced back in 450SX Heat 2, where he grabbed a second-place start and maintained a steady pace to secure a second-place transfer into the Main Event. Credited with the Main Event holeshot, Osborne had a great jump off the line as he battled out front early on. He engaged in a three-way battle for the lead behind his teammates Wilson and Anderson early on, patiently waiting for his time to make a move. On lap eight, he passed Wilson for second and from there he focused on reeling in the leader of Anderson ahead. With four laps to go, Osborne overtook the lead and he never looked back as he bested his teammate by three seconds for the win. Osborne, who ended the season with four podiums in the last six rounds, finished sixth overall in the 450SX Championship despite missing two rounds mid-season due to injury.
“That was a great race for all three of us. It feels amazing to get some results here at the end of the season for my team,”
Osborne said. “It was an incredible day and I’m just really proud for the whole team to be on the podium. It’s been an amazing trip in Salt Lake City.”

In 450SX Heat 1, Anderson got off to a fourth-place start and he climbed up to second by lap two. He worked his way into the lead halfway through and he held strong to capture the heat race victory. He got off to a great start in the Main Event, where he mixed it up for the lead with his teammates early on. He battled in second behind Wilson for the first six laps before making his way into the lead on lap seven. The 2018 450SX Champion held off a hard-charging duo behind him for 15 laps, leading the most laps of the race, before Osborne took over with four to go. Anderson continued to push all the way to the checkers, ultimately securing a runner-up finish at the finale. Anderson concluded the 2020 season in fourth overall, claiming five podium finishes and seven top-five finishes.

“All-in-all, it was a good trip in Utah and ending it on a high note with all three of us on the podium was good,” Anderson said. “I enjoyed Salt Lake City, so let’s do this again and get ready to go for outdoors.”
Wilson, the fourth-place qualifier, lined up in 450SX Heat 1 where he got off to an eighth-place start. He battled his way up to ultimately secure a sixth-place transfer spot.

In the Main Event, Wilson got off to a great start as he battled his teammate Osborne for the official holeshot. He quickly assumed the lead position on the opening lap where he set the pace early on, leading the first six laps of the race. Anderson took over on lap seven and Osborne followed suit, putting Wilson in a new battle for second-place. He maintained a great pace for the remainder of the race to claim his first podium finish of the season by finishing only 5.3 seconds back from the leader. Wilson rounded out the 2020 season eighth overall in points, claiming 11 top-10 finishes throughout the season.
“I was a bit tight running up front but I just tried to play it cool and smart,
Wilson said. “My goal was to get on the box and that’s what I did. I’m stoked to get a third place, lead some laps and end this SX season the way I wanted to. I would have liked to have more podiums but I’m super happy from where I came from at the beginning of the season barely being able to ride my bike, to being where I need to be now. I believed I could do it and I’m stoked.”

250SX East/West Showdown
It was the culmination of the 250SX Eastern and Western Regional Championships on Sunday and the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team represented both coasts. In the 250SX West Heat, Mosiman got off to a fourth-place start and he worked his way into third by lap two. He got tangled with another rider and dropped back to ultimately secure a seventh-place transfer. In the 250SX East/West Showdown, Mosiman got off to a top-10 start and he slowly climbed his way into the top-five just before the halfway point. He focused his sights on a podium position, making his move into third on lap 12.

With a strong finish, Mosiman raced his way to his second podium of the season. After nine rounds, Mosiman concluded the 250SX West Championship in fifth overall with five podium finishes in addition to a pair of podiums.
“I’m really proud of the team, we made some adjustments during the week and I felt comfortable straight out the gate,”
Mosiman said.“The heat was chaos, I got into it with Forkner and my elbow went into his rear tire and I couldn’t feel my hand. I managed a good race in the Main and ended up with a third. Overall, solid season and looking to build for this coming year.”

In the 250SX East Heat, Jalek Swoll put himself into third on the opening lap. He bounced around inside the top-five before securing a fourth-place transfer into the Main Event. In the 250SX East/West Showdown, Swoll got off to a great start in second as he mixed it up in the top-five before the red flag flew. Upon the restart, he got shuffled back to a top-15 position after tweaking his shoulder during the race. From there, Swoll worked hard to make his way back through the pack but a crash set him back even further and he was unable to recover, ultimately finishing 19th in the race. Swoll ended his rookie season in the 250SX East division seventh overall, with six top-10 finishes throughout the year.
“I felt good going into the Main Event,”
Swoll said. “I almost got holeshot and was riding pretty good, I think, and they threw out a red flag and it was all downhill from there. I got really close to my teammate in the restart and pulled my shoulder in a weird way. I was off-balance the whole race and then I made a mistake and crashed on my own. It was a tough race but my rookie season is in the books and I’m ready for outdoors.”

Deano talks of tough break https://www.motoheadmag.com/deano-talks-of-tough-break/ Thu, 02 Jan 2020 17:08:56 +0000 http://www.motoheadmag.com/?p=23463 Dean Wilson has finally confirmed he will be racing the Anaheim Supercross on Saturday after a tough fight back from injury. He dislocated his hip in October at the Monster Cup. The factory Husky rider said on Instagram:

I took 2 1/2 Months off the IG and we are back. I will go into more of that at a later time but sometimes you need to just disconnect and work on yourself mentally, physical and even spiritually… At least I did.

I have been on the bike for 2 weeks and to even think that I will line up at A1 is an accomplishment in itself. This injury has been so gnarly in so many aspects. I told my close people when I got injured that this was it. Enough was enough and I was done. But also this was the worst pain of my life… As a few days went by and things had calmed down I felt I would be leaving something on the table if I just quit and walked away. So after an insane amount of PT/Gym/training and eating the best I could.

I’m lining up at A1. I’m a little behind everybody so I need to give myself a few rounds to get stronger so be patient with me. But I get paid to race and that’s what I’m going to do. I have the best team and sponsors and fans behind me. I want to personally thank my sponsors for giving me my space and my own time to work on myself the past couple months. SEE YOU AT A1!!

Deano showed his funny side when he dressed up as Santa and gave away a brand new Husky!
